Environmental Print

Environmental Print in the Classroom (http://www.fun-a-day.com's guest post at The Reading Corner) -- A simple, but effective, way to integrate early literacy skills in preschool, kindergarten, or homeschool classrooms:

Dear Parents,

We are working to create a print rich learning

environment! We ask that you please help us by

allowing your child to bring examples of

environmental print to our classroom.

Environmental print consists of labels, signs, and

logos that are easily recognizable. These items can

be found in your home and do not require any

additional cost to you. Examples would include soup

labels, cereal boxes, packaging materials, bags,

cartons, etc. We will use these items to help us

bridge the gap between functional print and our

beginning stages of reading. Please send in

manageable-sized signs and labels that will fit into

your child’s backpack.

Thank you for assisting us with this exciting project!

Clothing and Blankets Being Sent Home Today

We will be sending home blankets to be washed over the long weekend as well as students change of clothes. Please change appropriately for summer months. Also please check sizing as children do grow. If your child hasn't brought clothing home, it is more than likely because their change of clothes is appropriate for the summer weather.

Many Thanks,
Mme. McCann, Mrs. Bean, Mrs. Parnell and Mrs. Belcourt.

Appropriate Weather for the Sunny Weather

As the summer weather is upon us, the following are some recommendations to have your child dressed and prepared for the season.

- We recommend that your child has a water bottle that they can fill up. After a lengthy recess outside in the heat, many of the children come in quite thirsty. We tend to fill up water bottles more than once a day.

- Sunscreen and a hat: This is important in order to protect your child from the high UV rays that we are now getting. You can put sunscreen on your child in the morning before school. This will help in them being protected for morning recess which can already be quite warm! If you do bring some sunscreen for them in a ziplock bag, we can keep it in their blue cubby bins and they can reapply as needed.

- Footwear: As the weather is hot, many of your children want to wear sandals or flip flops. We recommend footwear that has proper grip as we do go for walks around the school yard and are playing on the play structure. We do want your child's feet to be protected as well. The more exposed their feet are, the more risk of them getting hurt.

Many thanks for your cooperation in this matter,

Mme. McCann & Mrs. Parnell

Playdough Sign Up

Hi all,
As we look ahead to the month of June, we are looking for some helpful parents who could provide us some playdough. We have the following weeks open. If you feel inclined to make some, please write us a note in your child's communication book.

Thanks for all help,
Mme. McCann, Mrs. Bean, Mrs. Parnell and Mrs. Belcourt
